“Chicken Little” Sculpture Exhibit: Randy Polumbo
Exhibits from May 4 – 31, 2007
New “ Americana ” including work inspired loosely by the legend of “Chicken Little”, who presumed the world was coming to an end when he was hit on the head by an apple. Sculptor, Randy Polumbo, conjures a modern version of this tale, with today’s more compelling “apples” and an accordingly more credible apocalypse. Tons of rubber chickens are the harbingers of hard times and an indelible image of hope in the face of adversity. 29 Palms Creative Center, located at 6847 Adobe Road , 29 Palms, CA (760) 361-1805. Brian Baltzer's expressive and abstract ideas, shapes, colors, and objects reflect his finds in the Southern California deserts, streets and trails. Recently, Brian has expanded his repertoire including digital photographs taken in the desert. These photos are uniquely colored and textured rock formations, desert lichen, and rolled shot up old rusty car bodies and car parts. Bob Arnett paints plein air and in his studios, his passion is in painting the abandoned homesteads that dot the area around our home. Chuck Caplinger To Showcase "Desert Rainstorms"

      At Hi-Desert Water District Offices

What little rain the Morongo Basin has had over the past year or so has been captured in the form of seven oil paintings on canvas by artist Chuck Caplinger of Twentynine Palms. The dramatically depicted series, aptly named "Desert Rainstorms," features landscapes of Death Valley and Mojave Desert locations, including the Oasis of Mara and Joshua Tree National Park during or after a healthy rainstorm. Caplinger is no stranger to the cultural arts scene in the basin. The artist has painted several murals in Twentynine Palms, has exhibited his paintings throughout the basin over the past 10 years, and is co-founder of the Morongo Basin Cultural Arts Council and the Open Studio Art Tours. Caplinger will be showing his work at the Hi-Desert Water District office in Yucca Valley for the second time, having kicked off the bi-monthly lobby exhibitions several years ago at the urging of Klaus Wille of Yucca Valley , who volunteered to coordinate art exhibitions for the Hi-Desert Water District. The exhibition opened on August 2 and will run through September. An artist's reception will be held from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 9, and the public is invited. Hi-Desert Water District is located at 55439 29 Palms Hwy. , Yucca Valley , (760)365-8333. Lobby hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8 to 5 on Friday.
